BEIJING, Feb 2 (Reuters Life!) - Fancy becoming a black swan for the night? How about an elegant mermaid or an outgoing woman?
China's only national English-language newspaper ran a rare article on Friday advising woman how to dress to impress at parties for the Lunar New Year, the country's biggest holiday which starts on February 18.
"Black is the colour of mystery. Black clothes are common, but when dressing up in a black skirt at a party, you will immediately become an attractive and unique 'black swan'," the China Daily said in an article entitled "Let's Party".
Other suggestions included wearing long, fish-tail skirts a la mermaid or partying in plaid for that "cute schoolgirl look".
China Daily has a daily circulation of more than 200,000, and sees itself as the "voice of China". But the paper is widely dismissed as a government mouthpiece and more commonly read by foreign guests at international hotels than ordinary Chinese.
For party-goers keen on contrast, then the "outgoing woman" look, which combines masculine items such as men's vests, can "contrast with your feminine features, making you look more delicate and cute", the paper said.
Other tips include layering on the glittery blue, green or even white eye-shadow and painting nails to match your outfit.
China's newly affluent middle class is a key factor that is driving the fashion industry.
Traditionally, the Lunar New Year involves visiting relatives, lighting firecrackers and wearing new red clothing which signifies good luck. Western-style lavish New Year parties are not very common.
Now who could use some of this "good" advicxe???
